    • These bacteria are
      • Gram-negative bacilli
        • except Y. pestis, Brucella spp and F. tularensis which are coccobacilli
      • Facultative intracellular organisms
        • except P. multocida and Y. enterocolitica
      • Have high virulent ability to penetrate and infect multiple sites on the body
        • except P. multocida and Y. enterocolitica
      • Can be treated with aminoglycosides (gentamicin or streptomycin) and/or doxycycline and given for a long duration (not necessarily the first line agent)
        • except Y. enterocolitica (treat with fluoroquinolones)
