Introduction The zoonotic bacteria are Yersinia enterocolitica Yersinia pestis Brucella spp. Pasteurella multocida Francisella tularensis These bacteria are Gram-negative bacilli except Y. pestis, Brucella spp and F. tularensis which are coccobacilli Facultative intracellular organisms except P. multocida and Y. enterocolitica Have high virulent ability to penetrate and infect multiple sites on the body except P. multocida and Y. enterocolitica Can be treated with aminoglycosides (gentamicin or streptomycin) and/or doxycycline and given for a long duration (not necessarily the first line agent) except Y. enterocolitica (treat with fluoroquinolones)
