Snapshot A 20-year-old man presents to the emergency department due to severe pain in his right hand. He reports that a few hours prior to presentation he was in an argument and due to his frustration he punched the wall with a closed fist. Since that event he developed 8/10 pain. On physical exam, there is swelling on the dorsum of the hand with tenderness to palpation on the dorsal metacarpal joint of the 5th digit of the right hand. There is also tenderness upon palpation on the volar surface of that region with evidence of ecchymosis. Neurovascular status of the hand is intact. A radiograph of the hand is shown.
