This patient's presentation is consistent with diabetes mellitus, type I. Myocardial infarction is the most common cause of death in diabetic patients (both type 1 and 2).

Diabetic patients have increased formation of atherosclerosis and arteriosclerosis. These changes impair blood flow to various organs and tissues (via vessel occlusion) which can lead to possible cardiac (MI), renal (nephropathy), CNS (neuropathy), PNS (peripheral neuropathy), and ocular (retinopathy) complications.
