  • Finding of a solitary lung nodule ("coin lesion") 
    • most likely a hamartoma and not a malignant process
      • must perform biopsy
    • due to excessive and disorganized growth of native lung tissue
      • includes hyaline cartilage, fat, respiratory epithelium, and smooth muscle
